In the "Aftertaste" series I delved into the complexities of love and heartbreak, drawing heavily from my own experiences in matters of the heart. These paintings sought to encapsulate the subjective nature of these emotions. Each piece, with its size and use of negative space, symbolizes the passage of time, mirroring the evolving stages of love. Through this series, my goal was to explore the universal yet deeply personal aspects of these emotions, inviting viewers to reflect on their own encounters with love and heartbreak.
The 'Aftertaste' series encapsulates the complex experience of love through three diptych paintings, each capturing a distinct stage of this emotional journey. The series utilizes shape, size, coloring, and the positioning of figures to convey the essence of each stage. In 'Sweet,' the initial rush of being in love is portrayed, where moments meld together, and time seems to soar by in a blur of euphoria. 'Bitter' delves into the raw anguish of heartbreak, where sorrow consumes, time stretches into an agonizing crawl, and emotions dominate the canvas. Finally, 'Umami' signifies the stage of growth, as the composition transitions from horizontal to vertical, symbolising upward progression and resilience.
Through these visual narratives, the 'Aftertaste' series captures the nuanced spectrum of emotions inherent in the journey of love, from its intoxicating sweetness to its bitter aftermath, ultimately culminating in personal growth and renewal.
