My current project, titled 'Lilith,' explores the enduring phenomenon of demonizing women throughout history, for behaving differently than society deems appropriate. This demonization persists even today, manifesting in judgments against women who dare to pursue ambitions, express their sexuality, or display anger. Drawing inspiration from the biblical story of Lilith, the first woman created alongside Adam in the Garden of Eden, I highlight society's tendency to castigate women who strive for equality. 'Lilith' aspires to empower women by challenging the stereotypes and biases they face, fostering a vital conversation on this crucial topic.
The series delves into complex themes surrounding femininity and societal expectations. It confronts the notion of desire, highlighting the stigma attached to women who prioritize their own needs. The series tackles the taboo of female anger, questioning the relentless pressure on women to maintain a facade of perpetual warmth and amiability. Furthermore, it challenges the constraints of inhibition, addressing the double standards that dictate how women's bodies are perceived and policed, as well as exploring the concept of female dominance and leadership, aiming to challenge notions of power dynamics and gender roles.
While the 'Lilith' series confronts gender inequality head-on, it is not exclusively tailored for those who have personally encountered these issues. It also extends an invitation to individuals who may unwittingly contribute to the perpetuation of such inequality. My intention is to foster awareness, initiate discussions, and challenge preconceptions through art that transcends boundaries.
